Basement Timber Floor

Some of us like to make use of the home basement. But if we use the basement for anything other than storage then we probably need to add some suitable flooring. it is possible to add a basement timber floor under some circumstances.

Basement floors are different from the floors in other parts of the home. They are subject to moisture. And unless precautions are taken, or an appropriate flooring is installed, this moisture can lead to problems.

Moisture occurs on the lowest level of the buildings because of how easily it seeps up from the ground. This can be worse if the basement is below the ground level because moisture may also seep in via the walls. Usually, this moisture won’t affect the rest of the building, unless it is extreme; any decent building has some means of keeping moisture from affecting the upper walls and floors. But basement floors can be affected because they are below the waterproofing that provides protection for the upper floors.
Almost any basement flooring will suffer badly if there is flooding or leaking plumbing.

If we put a concrete floor in the basement there will usually be minimal issues with moisture. Professionally installed concrete floors should have waterproofing beneath them. It is a simple matter to add vinyl flooring to this concrete. Tiles are also possible, though this is slightly expensive. A floating floor with waterproof underlay is another option.

Basement Timber Floors can only be used in the basement if the home is thoroughly waterproofed. While timber is otherwise a very resilient flooring material it can be damaged by water or persistent moisture in the environment. A damaged floor will need to be repaired, which included re-sanding.

Floor Sanding and Polishing
Timber floors are long-lasting. And if they suffer superficial surface damage they can be re-sanded in order to restore their original finish.
